Betty Crocker Gluten Free All Purpose Rice Flour Blend

Betty Crocker has worked hard for years to be the go-to company for baking mixes. A few years ago, they also decided to take care of us gluten free folks by adding a whole line of gluten free mixes. I have tried and reviewed most of them, and have been fairly impressed so far. Well, now Betty Crocker has extended their gluten free offerings with a new sugar cookie mix and an all purpose rice flour blend. I was most surprised to see the rice flour blend. After all, what’s left after gluten free Bisquik? A lot, apparently :)

I am a member of MyBlogSpark, and have enjoyed this for years since they give me a heads-up about all sorts of new products. When they sent me the email letting me know about this new Betty Crocker Gluten Free All Purpose Rice Flour Blend, you know I had to try it!

Ease of Use

This gluten free rice flour blend is designed to be substituted in any recipe. I love the fact that there is no guesswork involved.

 Appearance

The flour is super-fine and bright white. To test it, I made banana bread using the recipe that was on the box. The bread had a sturdy crust and a fine, dense crumb.

Taste and Texture

The flavor of this gluten free flour blend is fantastic. Not that I sat in my kitchen eating the flour itself, mind you, but you can always taste the gluten free funk in baked goods and this definitely did not have it. The bread was soft and moist (perhaps a little too moist) with no grainy textures. I think it is possible to fool the gluten free critics with this blend.
I put this picture in to show that the finished bread was moist enough to make my knife sticky. This is a good thing for banana bread.

Versatility

Gluten Free All Purpose Flour. Enough said.

Overall Value

Like all of the gluten free Betty Crocker mixes, this one is going to run you about $5 a box (depending on where you buy it). The only problem is that the box only holds about 3 1/2 cups of flour. The banana bread recipe called for two cups… that doesn’t leave very much for further testing. If you bake a lot, this box will not satisfy you, even if the flavor of the product does. This gluten free flour blend is made more for people like me who don’t bake often, and don’t want the hassle of blending four flours to get the perfect mix.

Rating

I like this gluten free rice flour blend. It is easy to use and handy to have around.

And this pic I threw in just because I love the faces D.D. gives me when I ask her to smile for a blog photo. Don't be fooled, folks. She begged to help me bake the bread for this post :)

    1. There is Pillsburyr pie crust dough in the cooler where all of the other Pillsbury stuff is. It works great and it's ready to be rolled out and put in the pie plate.
